You’ve likely noticed the recent surge in X account takeovers. High-profile profiles everyday users & organisations have fallen victim to phishing campaigns, fake DMs from trusted contacts & other deceptive tactics. Attackers exploit these breaches to post cryptocurrency scams or lock owners out entirely—often resulting in financial losses, reputational harm or prolonged recovery efforts.

This trend underscores a critical truth: passwords, however strong, alone are insufficient in today’s hacking landscape.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) provides an essential additional layer of protection. It requires a second verification step beyond your password—typically a time-based code from an authenticator app, a physical security key or a text message—ensuring that, even if credentials are compromised, unauthorised access is still blocked.

Many social media platforms, such as X, support multiple 2FA methods, including authenticator apps security keys & text messages.

Why enabling 2FA matters urgently:

Phishing attacks frequently trick users into revealing passwords via fake links or spoofed messages. 2FA halts these attempts.
Credential stuffing—using leaked passwords from other breaches—fails when a second factor is required.
Account compromise can cascade: attackers impersonate you target followers or extract sensitive information. 2FA dramatically reduces this risk.

You can even set it so that there’s an extra layer of security on top of that by requiring the key itself be unlocked by Yubico’s proprietary Yubico Authenticator first. However, while advanced, these dedicated security keys cost about 10,000 JPY or more, depending on the model & features, which may be too expensive for some people. Furthermore, it is recommended to not only have 1 but, at a minimum, 2 security keys–to act as a main & a backup to prevent permanent lockouts from your accounts.

For those seeking a free starting point, app-based 2FA remains highly secure & accessible. Applications such as Authy generate codes offline & resist common bypass methods like SIM swapping (far better than SMS alone).

How to Set Up 2FA

Set up takes just minutes. Here’s how for X (steps may vary slightly by device):

Log in to X via the app or web.
Navigate to Settings & privacy > Security & account access > Security > Two-factor authentication.
Select your preferred method (security key recommended, but authenticator apps can also be used).
Follow the prompts: scan the QR code with your authenticator app or register a security key by following the touch prompts on screen.
Save the provided backup codes securely. Store them airgapped (offline, in writing, in a secure place you won’t forget), not on your device.

The process is relatively identical everywhere. Repeat it across all accounts that support 2FA—prioritise E-mail & financial services, not just social platforms.

Best practices

2FA is great, but strong passwords still matter. Use a password manager to generate & save long strings of random letters, numbers & symbols. The days of using pets’ names, birthdays, etc. are over.

Why I Upgraded to the DJI Mic 3

I was always very satisfied with my DJI Mic 2 & probably would not have upgraded to the Mic 3, were it not for the current 14% off sale which continues until February 10th (2026). Since the Mic 3 became 14% off & I got an additional 2,828 Rakuten points for the purchase, it just made sense to sell off my Mic 2 & buy to the Mic 3 — the sale basically made it free for me to upgrade! But that’s not the only reason I upgraded from the DJI Mic 2 to the DJI Mic 3. There are several other reasons, which I will delve into in this article, so you can be better informed about your own decision as to whether or not to upgrade from a prior-generation DJI Microphone. Without further ado, here are my reasons:

Memory Supply Crunch Threatening Repricing

There is also the matter of the memory supply crunch which will be affecting technology for at least the next couple of years. I have written my own reports on this topic, but I am not the only one ringing the alarm bell to get what devices you can before major repricing; other well-respected technological news outlets are now reporting similar cautions, urging people to buy a Nintendo Switch 2 now before a global repricing occurs. I don’t think this will remain specific to the Nintendo Switch 2 alone, but rather ANY device which has memory components, such as the Mic 3. This crunch stems from ongoing global supply chain issues & increased demand for AI-driven devices which could drive up prices for memory-intensive products like the Mic 3’s expanded 32GB storage. If you are eyeing an upgrade, acting soon might avoid future cost hikes similar to those anticipated for gaming consoles & smartphones.

Enhanced On-Board Memory & Related Features

Speaking of memory the onboard recording on the Mic 3 is four times that of the Mic 2. The Mic 2 only had 8 gigabytes of internal memory whereas the Mic 3 has 32 gigabytes. Plus it allows you to dual record tracks of both the native audio input & the AI-enhanced audio adjusted input. Beyond storage, the Mic 3’s dual-band wireless technology ensures more stable connections in crowded environments & its voice tone presets let you tailor audio output on the fly—options like “natural” for interviews or “bright” for energetic content. Compatibility is broad including seamless integration with DJI cameras smartphones & laptops via adapters, though I recommend testing with your specific setup.

Concert Recording?

On the subject of adjustments, this should ostensibly allow better recording of live concerts, something that the Mic 2 was notoriously bad at. Try as I may, no Mic 2 settings configuration stopped the audio from being so unusably bad that I gave up & went on to recording a live concert using the Pocket 3’s onboard recorder (which sounds fine & non-distorted) instead of any external microphone whatsoever. The Mic 3’s enhancements could mitigate such distortion from high-decibel events by capturing a wider dynamic range. Though there were several articles on the topic of the Mic 2’s poor concert recording capabilities, I have not been able to source any content, positive or negative, in regards to concert use for the Mic 3, so I will personally conduct tests in the coming weeks using the various settings to see if I can get non-distorted audio in a live concert setting. If successful, it could make the Mic 3 a viable option for capturing live performances. If you do not intend to record concerts, at all this isn’t anything you need to worry about, no matter which generation of the Mic series you possess. The Mic 2 has always performed exceptionally well when simply speaking into it, as most creators do–but it is something to keep in mind if you actually intend to record concerts, whether you are a musician or a spectator.

Enhanced Communication via Numerology

Lastly, this is a little bit more on a personal note that many people may not take into account or take seriously at all, but in numerology the number 3 is the number of communication. Therefore, I think that having a device branded with the number 3 will metaphysically enhance my communication skills & help me convey what I wish to to my viewing audience. Like astrology, etc. I think it’s good fun & I enjoy things such as this, but no need to take it into account if you are not spiritual or superstitious.

For many use cases there is simply no need to upgrade to it &, for others, there are actual reasons why you would not want to upgrade such as the DJI Mic 3 not having a 3.5mm audio jack to which you can connect a lavalier mic or shotgun mic to, but in the entirety of the time that I have owned the Mic 2 which is just shy of two years now I have never once needed that audio jack except to plug in the windscreen.

With a lot of introductory offers of only about a dollar for the first year, I decided to give it a try. However, I am sad to announce that the necrolicious.store website will be going down next month. But my meme merchandise will remain available on Printify Popup for everyone outside of Japan. The .store domain was a failed experiment & the renewal cost of nearly $60–far from the $1 introductory offer–is simply not justifiable, in my experience. My Disappointing Experience with the UGREEN Magnetic Version

Not quite a year ago I tried buying the UGREEN Magnetic Mobile Battery since I had bought a MagSafe case for my Samsung Flip6 & thought it would enable me to use it just as well as an iPhone might. Unfortunately that did not go well. Even after charging it overnight. I was not able to get a full charge off that power bank despite it being 10,000 mAh & the Samsung Flip 6’s battery being 4,000 mAh. It also caused a worrying amount of heat in the process.

This was a very disappointing experience & I ended up returning the battery. I had initially intended to buy this wired UGREEN Uno 10000mAh instead, since it was undeniably more compatible with Samsungs, but at the time I did not have a particular need for a mobile battery so I kept putting off, even as sales dropped the price significantly, thinking I could always just buy it whenever.

The Return of the Need for a Portable Charger

As winter hit & I discovered heated clothing, the need for a mobile battery returned since the Zippo one I bought in 2019ish died & the Belkin one nearly that old was slow to charge & fast to discharge. With more devices relying on power on the go than ever, finding a dependable portable charger in Japan became essential.

My Search for the UGREEN Uno 10000mAh Amid Shortages

I thought I would just jump back on Amazon — where I had purchased the magnetic one — but, when I did, it was nowhere to be found. There was a newer slightly different one (the PB525) with double the capacity but it was not what I was looking for.

I never thought “personality” would be a feature I looked for in a battery, but this isn’t it…

So I went to the official UGREEN website which links to Amazon. There I discovered the listing showed as “Currently unavailable.”

Online Retailer Searches

Thinking it was strange, I tried searching online for other retailers but, even then, it was hard to find — with only the purple one having any sort of availability. Specific searches on Amazon.co.jp for “UGREEN Uno 10000mAh wired power bank” mostly turned up magnetic variants instead. confirming the wired model’s scarcity.

In-Store Hunt at Bic Camera in Tokyo

So I checked the nearby Bic Camera, where I had previously bought one as a gift for someone else. They had a lot of empty boxes which you have to take up to the register in order to purchase the actual item, so I figured they had a decent amount in stock.

I tried to check out that way, only to be told that they were completely out of stock. However, there was another Bic Camera location about a 10-minute walk away where I could buy it. In the process of explaining this, the salesman showed me his phone displaying the stock availability of the other locations. There were only two locations that were not completely blacked out indicating that the item was no longer available on a wide-spread level.

I went over to that over Bic Camera & had to do quite a bit of searching before I finally found it, but there was one last one. So I bought it.

As far as I am aware Ugreen is one of the most widely known & best-selling mobile battery manufacturers. It was really shocking that it was so difficult to get hold of this model in Tokyo.

Theories on the Power Bank Shortage in Japan

I tried conducting some additional research, but could not find any solid reason for this shortage — no recalls or other discontinuation announcements. I was previously aware of the DRAM shortage causing price hikes & other supply chain availability issues for any sort of electronic devices which require memory — from phones to gaming systems to computers — but I did not imagine that those would affect mobile batteries.

Given that this particular mobile battery has a display which has animated emojis based on the amount of charge remaining, I thought that perhaps there was some sort of memory-related component that made this particular model unavailable. However, further research indicated that no significant difference existed between this & a normal battery in terms of memory: none.

I am at a loss for why this has become such a rare item. Still, I am glad I was able to get what appears to be one of the last ones available in Tokyo. There are other bigger & better batteries out there, including others from Ugreen, but I wanted this one since I had already given one as a gift & wanted to match with the person I gave it to.
